Beer enthusiasts across Telangana will find themselves paying more for their favorite beverages as the state government has approved a price hike of 15 per cent on beer, effective from Tuesday.

This decision follows the recommendations made by the Price Fixation Committee, which advised the Excise Department to adjust the price to reflect the rising costs. As a result, beer stocks held by IMFL depots, including those in transit, will now carry the revised Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

The price increase particularly affects Kingfisher beer, a product of United Breweries Limited (UBL), which had previously requested a price rise of 33.1 per cent. UBL had even threatened to reduce its beer supply to the state if their proposal was not approved. Despite this, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had previously asserted that the government would not succumb to the pressure of corporate demands. However, the state's latest move has resulted in a 15 per cent increase in beer prices.

This price adjustment comes at a time when the state is gearing up for warmer weather, which typically sees an uptick in beer consumption. Additionally, it is reported that the neighboring Andhra Pradesh state has also raised liquor prices.
